WHY GERMANY'S TWO-TIER HEALTH INSURANCE SYSTEM IS SO COMPLICATED

Handelsblatt Global - The German health insurance system has evolved into a strange mix of public and private companies. In some ways, it’s effective; in other ways, surprisingly flawed. Everybody loves to whine about healthcare. 
In Britain, the single-payer National Health Service is free but also overburdened. In the United States, the fragmented system of employer-sponsored, government-run and individual insurance is patchy, unaffordable and leaves many people without any coverage. In Germany, too, people complain. But that is probably more because they’re German than because the system is bad. As an American living in Germany, I find this German hybrid healthcare system to be a breath of fresh air....>>>
